Some APC aspirants for the Edo State House of Assembly protested yesterday against the party’s leadership’s directive that they should step down their ambition for automatic tickets for 15 members elected under the party’s platform in 2019, 14 of whom were not inaugurated, while the 15th who was inaugurated has reportedly been frustrated because he refused to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, when Godwin Obaseki left the APC. The lawmakers are sometimes referred to as the G-14.
Col David Imuse (retd), state chairman of the APC, said over the weekend, following a meeting of the party’s Executive Committee, that the 15 legislators would be granted the right of first refusal.
However, the aspirants, who were present at the premises of the state Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, insisted that the blanket ticket for them was incorrect because some of them were already aspiring for other positions such as the House of Representatives, while others had other appointments, and still others had lost touch with their people.
