Hundreds of students from the University of Benin in Edo State marched out in protest of the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ ongoing strike action on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, It was reported that students demonstrated near the University of Ibadan in Oyo State, asking for the rapid reopening of public universities across Nigeria.
In UNIBEN, students who had protested around the university’s gate and its environs had declared ‘UNISTREET,’ which meant that Nigerian students would now be taking lectures on the streets, with some of them serving as teachers, all in an effort to protest school closure.
On Tuesday, a protest at the University of Lagos was put down by highly armed security personnel who were stationed at the school gate.
The strike action of the lecturers which is entering its fourth month has left public universities shut since its inception following the lecture’s demands, which the Federal Government had, allegedly, not met.
