The Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election was won by Sheriff Oborevwori, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.
Oborevwori received 590 votes, defeating his closest challenger, former Chief of Staff, Government House, Chief David Edevbie, who received 113 votes.
Deputy Governor Kingsley Otuaro and Peter Mrakpor, the immediate past Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, each received nine votes.
While reporting the results, the PDP Returning Officer, Mr Ndubisi Nwobu, and his colleagues declared Oborevwori the winner for receiving the most votes in the primary poll.
According to him, the election committee approved 824 delegates for the primary elections, but only 822 ballots were cast, with three invalid votes.
“By the power conferred on me as the Party’s Returning officer for the Delta State PDP Governorship Primaries for 2023, I hereby declare Mr Sheriff Oborevwori winner for scoring the highest number of votes in the election.
“Oborevwori scored a total of 590 out of 821 valid votes to emerge winner and he is hereby returned as the Delta PDP candidate for the 2023 general election,” he said.
